Statue of Kusunoki, Samurai Hero
This weekend we took a field trip up to Central Tokyo to see what it had to offer. We took a train from Yokosuka Chuo train station to Shinagawa. Then we switched trains to the JR Yamanote Line that took us to Tokyo station. Once we found our way to Tokyo, we walked several blocks over to the Imperial Palace Plaza.
We walked the plaza, but most of the Imperial Palace grounds are closed to the public. Apparently, some of the old imperial family still resides on the grounds. These palace buildings were destroyed during WWII by bombing raids, but they were rebuilt in the 1960's as replicas of the old Imperial Palace.

We walked around downtown Tokyo, must of which is very modern, until we figured out the best tourist sites to frequent. We did get lost on several occasions trying to find different subways lines, but finally we found a tourist information office.

We ate some lunch at Mcdonalds (most of the other restaurants didn't seem too appealing). Then we jumped on the subway to go see a shrine in the suburb of Asakusa.
