Shrine at Asakusa

After checking out downtown Tokyo, we took the Ginza subway line to the town of Asakusa. It took us quite some time to locate the right subway line as Tokyo's subway system is very complex. The attraction to tourists at Asakusa is an ancient Buddhist shrine. These temples were built in 1649 during Japan's Edo period. The Asakusa Shrine is also known as Sanja-sama ("Shrine of the Three Gods"), and it is one of the most famous Shinto Shrines in Tokyo, Japan. It is also one of the few ancient structures that survived the WWII air raids of Tokyo in 1945.
